- The time taken for two wave crests to pass a fixed point.

- The duration of one complete cycle from crest-to-crest or trough-to-trough. wave-resistance: the stem of a vessel cutting through the water produces a bow wave and a similar phenomenon occurs at the stern. it takes energy to create these phenomena, and that energy is subtracted from the power available to drive the vessel forward.
