Англо-русский словарь по геологии

    Polymere, английский

    Polymer, английский
    1. A material formed by the chemical combination of monomers having either the same or different chemical composition.

    2. A substance formed by the linkage (polymerization) of two or more simple, molecules, called monomers, to form a single larger molecule having the same elements in the same proportions as the original monomers; i.e. each monomer retains its structural identity. a polymer may be liquid or solid; solid polymers may consist of millions of repeated linked units. a polymer made from two or more similar monomers is called a copolymer; a copolymer composed of three different types of monomers is a terpolymer. natural rubber and synthetic rubbers are examples of polymers. polymers are commonly used as viscosity index improvers in multi-grade oils and tackifiers in lubricating greases.

    3. A compound formed by the reaction of simple molecules having functional groups that permit their combination

    4. One of a group of high-molecularweight resin-like, organic compounds whose structures usually can be represented by repeated small units. some polymers are elastomers, some are plastics, and some are fibers. polymer-cement concrete concrete produced by a mixture of hydraulic cement, aggregate, water, and a polymer or a monomer. polythene 749 polygonal masonry

    5. A high molecular weight, chain-like structure from which manufactured fibers are derived; produced by linking together molecular units called monomers.

    6. A macromolecule formed from a long chain of molecules called monomers; a high-molecular-weight material composed of repeating sub-units. polymers may be organic, inorganic, or organometallic, and synthetic or natural in origin. see biopolymer.

    7. Macromolecule composed of individual units, monomers, that bind together like building blocks.

    8. A large molecule composed of repeating structural units.
