Pitting, английский
- A form of extremely localized attack characterized by holes in the metal. pitting is one of the most destructive and insidious forms of corrosion. depending on the environment and the material, a pit may take months, or even years, to become visible.
- Surface irregularities that may develop on lamp pins, bases, and sockets which affect lamp-life and socket operation. tip: replace pitted lamps and sockets asap.
- The formation of hollows in the skin
- Chemical or mechanical surface damage to a metal involving the formation of pits or holes. see also scuffing,
- Forming small sharp cavities in a metal surface by nonuniform electrodeposition or by corrosion.
- Discontinuity consisting of surface cavities. see also cavitation fatigue.
- Forming of small cavity discontinuities in a surface by corrosion, wear, or other degradation. see also cavitation erosion. planck’s distribution law: fundamental law that relates the emitted energy spectral radiance to wavelength and to emitted surface temperature. see also blackbody; incandescence; stefan-boltzmann law; wien’s law.
