Stuffing box, английский
- A packing gland surrounding a shaft to prevent leakage; commonly used on water pumps.

- A cylindrical device containing packing, compressed around a rotating shaft or reciprocating rod to prevent leakage. s-twist: see rope and hawser lay. sub-caliber: a projectile that is smaller than the bore of the weapon it is to be fired from, requiring a bushing or sabot to enlarge it.
- A chamber designed to contain packing and to maintain a fluid tight joint about a piston rod where it enters a cylinder or around a drill rod where it enters the casing at the collar of a borehole. sub. a coupling with different types and sizes of box or pin threads at either end. used to connect unlike threaded members of drill-string, casing, or drive-pipe equipment together. also called adapter, substitute.
