A general term for a variety of techniques used in ai and other areas of computation. constraint solving systems work with a knowledge base of constraints and include an engine to search for solutions that meet these constraints. a constraint solving system will cycle through the constraints, changing the free values in the system to meet some maximization or minimization criteria.

A generalized list over some set of elements is a list whose elements are either elements of the set or generalized lists from the set. a generalized list can contain both elements and other forms of a list. see also: list. generalized logic diagram (gld) a generalized logic diagram (gld) is a generalization of a karnaugh map. the karnaugh map uses dimension stacking to imbed multiple binary attributes into a two-dimensional table whose entries correspond to the binary output of that combination. a gld allows stacks multi-level attributes and allows a general response, possibly including a graphic, as the entries. continuous attributes can be included after binning. a decision table is a special form of a gld. see also: decision table, dimension stacking, karnaugh map.
