    A 0.5 0.25 0.25 b 0.3 0.3 0.4 c 0.0 0.3 0.7 see also: belief net, conditional. markov chain monte carlo (mcmc) methods a family of sampling-based methods for calculating the distribution of a belief net given a collection of data. generally, the unobserved values in a belief net are randomly initialized. the algorithm then cycles through the set of unobserved values, sampling from its distribution conditional on the current settings of other values. this process is repeatedly sampled until sufficient data is gathered to generate the desired answer. it allows one to compute far more than specialized belief net architectures do, including complicated multivariate probabilities and expectations over complicated regions of the data. see also: belief nets, probabilistic expert system.

    A belief function that assigns all of its mass directly to one subset of the frame is a logical belief function since it acts like an ordinary (boolean) logic function. see also: belief function.
