Balsam (balsamic)

Flavors & fragrances glossary
    A sweet fragrance accord that provides rich, warm, resinous and very tenacious qualities to most compounds. also, described as woodiness associated with fresh-cut, well-seasoned non-coniferous wood, as for example, maple. the balsamic effect is most commonly found in oriental fragrances and powder perfumes.

  1. Balsamic notes are found in some perfumes. they have a warm scent, and are popular in the oriental group of fragrances, like shalimar, opium and obsession.

  2. Heavy, sticky sweet scent that can be associated with balsamic vinegar and which has all of the properties of the vinegar itself: sweet woody odor with a thick consistency. the best way to describe the balsamic character of a perfume is to explain it with the drydown of shalimar perfume.
