- Any of numerous wild or domesticated web-footed swimming birds of the family anatidae, esp. of the genus anas and allied genera, characterized by a broad, flat bill, short legs, and depressed body
- Slang term for a ball sitting close to a pocket that is virtually impossible to miss (i.e., a “sitting duck”); or to play safe
- The finest canvas (no. 8) for small sails, is sometimes so called; but it is really a lighter cloth than canvas, and is greatly used by seamen and soldiers on tropical stations for frocks and trousers.
