- The result of recording too much light when taking a picture, which results in a lighter image. in digital imaging, overexposure can usually be corrected to a certain extent by the use of image-editing software, depending on the degree to which an image is overexposed. raw files offer more latitude than jpegs and tiffs for correcting overexposure.
- In exposure, when too much lighting strikes the film for a proper rendition of the scene. minor overexposure may cause a loss of details or texture in the scene highlights; severe overexposure will cause a serious deterioration of picture quality in color and black and white print film, and a complete loss of picture information with slide films.
- This is an image that appears much too bright. the highlights and colours are totally lost and usually unrecoverable even by top software. either the shutter speed was too long or the aperture was too wide.
