Diving
|
Refers to [1] plunging into water (especially headfirst). [2] submerging and moving underwater. this may be done in several different ways. • in self-contained diving swimmers hold their breath and surface for air. • in snorkeling the diver breathes through a short tube and cannot go deeper than it is long. • when hookah diving the person breathes through a mask connected to a small air pump on the surface by a hose that restricts movement. • in scuba diving air is supplied from portable tanks via complicated delivery valves. movement is unrestricted, but underwater time is limited by tank capacity. • with full surface support the diver wears the classic helmet and suit, connected to a copious air supply from the surface. an air hose and a safety tether limit movement, but allow much deeper dives and longer time underwater.
