- In robotics and control theory, a dirac delta function is used to represent an infinitely large amount of energy (or torque) delivered by an actuator in an infinitesimally short time. the function is named for the physicist paul dirac. see also: robotics. directed acyclic graph (dag) a graph (or network) is a directed acyclic graph if there are no "loops" or cycles (a->b->...->a) and each arc or link has a single direction associated with it (a->b or b->a, but not a<->b). these are often used in the representation of knowledge networks. figure d.3 on page 84 depicts a dag. it differs from the one shown in figure d.4. the direction of the ab arc breaks the cycles in the directed graph.
