Serum, английский
- 1. a fluid which separates from clotted blood and is similar to plasma except that it has no clotting agents. also called blood serum 2. blood serum taken from an animal which has developed antibodies to bacteria, used to give humans temporary immunity to a disease. also called antiserum 3. any clear watery body fluid, especially a fluid that comes from a serous membrane (note: the plural is serums or sera.) comment: blood serum is plasma without the clotting agents. it contains salt and small quantities of albumin, globulin, amino acids, fats and sugars; its main component is water.

- A lightweight product applied after cleansers and essences, but before moisturizers. serums can either deeply nourish (like with hyaluronic acid), exfoliate (like with glycolic acid or other ahas), or treat/prevent conditions (like treat acne/breakout-prone skin with ingredients like salicylic acid).
- Fluid portion of the blood after clotting has occurred; generally lacks clotting factors
