Salmagundi, английский
- A savoury sea dish, made of slices of cured fish and onions.
- A food dish that has gone through a series of manifestations. [1] it originated ashore in england, late in the 16th century, being comprised of cooked meats, seafood, vegetables, fruit, leaves, nuts and flowers, dressed with oil, vinegar and spices. there was no single recipe, but it was usually presented as a large salad, drizzled with dressing and producing a wide range of flavors, colors, and textures on a single plate. [2] in the age of sail, the term referred to a favorite seaman’s dish of sliced cured turtle meat or fish, boiled with pickled onions and cabbage. [3] today, most recipes involve ground meat, served on a bed of lettuce with anchovies, eggs, onion, and spices. from italian salami conditi = pickled sausage.
