    Platform, английский
    1. A raised area, next to the line, that allows passengers to enter and leave trains.

    4. A container consisting of a rectangular base only. see also bolster, flat, flat-tainer.

    5. Refers to different computer types or operating environments; e.g., macintosh, dos/windows, cd-i and sega are different platforms.

    6. A kind of deck for any temporary or particular purpose: the orlop-deck, having store-rooms and cabins forward and aft, and the middle part allotted to the stowage of cables. also, the flooring elevation of stone or timber on which the carriage of a gun is placed for action. hence, in early voyages, a fort or battery, with well-mounted ordnance, is called “the platform.”

[3] any military structure, vehicle, or vessel forming the base for a weapon system. [4] any flat or horizontal surface; especially, one that is raised above a particular level. [5] a framework or staging that can be raised or lowered to form a standing place for workers.

A plank or a mesh-steel-covered level area at the base of a drill tripod or derrick, used as a working space in front of a drill machine around the collar of the borehole. sometimes the platform is large enough to act as a foundation and anchor for the drill machine. also, a similar floored area in the tripod or derrick on which a man stands while working in the tripod or derrick. see floor, drill floor.

    10. A set of subsystems and interfaces that form a common structure from which a stream of derivative products can be efficiently developed and produced. a given product may have platform deliverables (building blocks) from several areas that define its implementation.

    11. The foundation technology of a computer system, normally the type of computer and/or operating system being used.
