See: single instruction multiple datastream. simple html ontology extension (shoe) shoe is a simple hypertext markup language-based (html-based) knowledge representation language. its purpose is to provide a means for authors to add knowledge representation capabilities to world wide web (www) pages, with the aim of increasing the usefulness of the web. unlike knowledge interchange format (kif), it has limited semantics to enable it to be easily parsed. shoe contains two categories of tags: one for constructing simple ontologies, and a second for using the ontologies on the page. as an example of the former, the ontology might declare that there are ``beings" of a type "dog" and that a "dog" can have a property called a "name;" the latter might declare that the www document is about a "dog" named "lassie." see also: knowledge interchange format, knowledge query and manipulation language, ontology markup language, http://www.cs.umd.edu/projects/plus/shoe/.
