Diamond Glossary (алмазы и бриллианты - глоссарий терминологии)
A round drill rod used on a shot drill, usually outside coupled and of larger diameter than diamond-drill rods.

Calyx, английский

  2. A part of the body shaped like a cup especially the tube leading to a renal pyramid. see illustration at kidney in supplement (note: the plural is calyces.) comment: the renal pelvis is formed of three major calyces, which themselves are formed of several smaller minor calyces. cam cam abbr complementary and alternative medicine

  3. A steel tube attached to the upper end of a core barrel having the same outside diameter as the core barrel. the upper end is open except for two web members running from the inside of the tube to a ring encircling the drill rod. the calyx serves as a guide rod and also as a bucket to oaten cuttings that are too heavy to be flushed out of the borehole by the circulation fluid. also called bucket, sludge barrel, sludge bucket.

  4. Shot drill,

  5. A pipe or tube equipped with a sawtooth cutting edge, sometimes used to obtain a core sample of the formation being drilled. compare basket.

  7. 1. a stick shape with rounded ends some bacteria are shaped like rods or are rod-shaped. 2. one of two types of lightsensitive cell in the retina of the eye. rods are sensitive to dim light, but not to colour. cone comment: rod cells in the eye are sensitive to poor light. they contain rhodopsin or visual purple, which produces the nervous impulse which the rod transmits to the optic nerve.

  14. Retinal receptor that responds at low levels of luminance even down below the threshold for cones. at these levels there is no basis for perceiving differences in hue and saturation. no rods are found in the fovea centralis.2,6 concentrated toward the outer region of the retina, rods assist with mesopic vision and are responsible for scotopic night vision. compare cone. root mean square (rms): statistical measure of the magnitude of a varying quantity, such as current. square root of the mean square of a set of measures, usually a time series. s sampling, partial: testing of less than 100 percent of a production lot. sampling, random partial: partial sampling that is fully random. sampling, specified partial: partial sampling in which a particular frequency or a sequence of sample selection is prescribed. an example of specified partial sampling is the testing of every fifth unit.

  15. Retinal receptor that responds at low levels of luminance even down below the threshold for cones. at these levels there is no basis for perceiving differences in hue and saturation. no rods are found in the fovea centralis (iesna 1984). concentrated toward the outer region of the retina, rods assist with mesopic vision and are responsible for scotopic night vision. compare cone. root mean square (rms): statistical measure of the magnitude of a varying quantity. also known as quadratic mean, root mean square is especially useful when data varies between positive and negative (for example, a sinusoidal wave).
