Wearable computer systems

Глоссарий по искусственному интеллекту
As the term implies, these are computer systems that are designed to be worn or easily carried about. a wearable system allows the user to circumvent the usual limitations of a workstation, server-based expert system, or intelligent agent. they are currently under active development and have been employed primarily in vertical applications, such as aircraft maintenance or stock analysis. the systems can range from the simple palm computer, such as the palm pilot, with specialized databases and decision programs (e.g., options analysis) to systems that are worn on a "hip pack" and have head mounted monitors, as well as specialized input devices (e.g., a "twiddler"). the newer systems can include wireless modems to allow continuous access to the internet and other specialized information sources, such as stock market feeds or patient databases.

Curse of dimensionality, английский
As the number of dimensions in a predictive model increases, the "size" of the data space being modeled increases in an exponential fashion. as the number of predictors increases for a given sample size, the coverage of the `data space` becomes increasingly sparse, so that any new observation becomes "further" away from any previously observed data point. this leads to problem of variable selection often encountered in many statistical techniques.

Assumption based reasoning, английский
Asumption based reasoning is a logic-based extension of dempster-shafer theory, a symbolic evidence theory. it is designed to solve problems consisting of uncertain, incomplete, or inconsistent information. it begins with a set of propositional symbols, some of which are assumptions. when given a hypothesis, it will attempt to find arguments or explanations for the hypothesis. the arguments that are sufficient to explain a hypothesis are the quasi-support for the hypothesis, while those that do not contradict a hypothesis comprise the support for the hypothesis. those that contradict the hypothesis are the doubts. arguments for which the hypothesis is possible are called plausibilities. assumption based reasoning then means determining the sets of supports and doubts. note that this reasoning is done qualitatively. an assumption based system (abs) can also reason quantitatively when probabilities are assigned to the assumptions. in this case, the degrees of support, degrees of doubt, and degrees of plausibility can be computed as in the dempster-shafer theory. a language, abel, has been developed to perform these computations. see also: dempster-shafer theory, http://www2-iiuf.unifr.ch/tcs/abel/reasoning/.
