Positive predictive value, английский
- The positive predictive value of a classification rule (with respect to a specific outcome) is an estimate of the probability that a case that is predicted to be in a specific category actually belongs in that category. it is a function of three quantities: the sensitivity and specificity of the classification rule with respect to that outcome and the proportion of positives in the cases being evaluated with the rule (e.g., the incidence of positives in the target population). as an example, suppose you have developed a credit classification rule that catches all the bad credit risks (i.e., is 100 percent sensitive) but only misclassifies 10 percent of the good credit risks (i.e., is 90 percent specific). if you apply it to a customer set that only has 10 percent bad credit risks, the positive predictive value is only 52 percent. to see this, note that 10 percent of the target population that is a bad credit risk will be correctly identified, but that an additional 10 percent of the remaining good 90 percent will also be classified as being bad. so, of the total classified as being bad, only 53 percent (10%/(10% + 10%*90%)) are actually bad.
