- A file server that contains a duplicate set of files to the set on a popular server. mirror sites exist to spread the distribution burden over more than one server or to eliminate the need to use high-demand international circuits.
- A site that’s identical to another. these are usually set up on different servers to handle heavy traffic on popular sites to eliminate bottlenecks. many international sites have mirror sites in various countries to speed up access.
- A website that rehosts the content of another website. also used in the context of downloads where three “mirror sites” would all offer different locations to download the same file.
