Noisy channel model, английский
The noisy channel model is used in empirical natural language processing as a basic model for the statistical analysis of language. the model assumes that language is generated "clearly" and then passed through a noisy channel before being received. the goal becomes to recover the original "clear" communication from the noisy input.

Noisy data, английский
Data which contain errors due to the way in which they are collected and measured are usually referred to as being noisy. continuous measurements are often mixed with gaussian noise, unless they are near the upper or lower bounds of the measurement system, in which case the noise tends to be skewed towards the center of the scale. many statistical methods make the a priori assumption that the data is noisy. see also: knowledge discovery in databases, data mining, machine learning. nominal attribute (type) a classical taxonomy for numerically valued attributes breaks them into nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio types. an attribute is nominal if the meaning of the value doesn`t change if you reorder the attributes or shuffle the values assigned to each meaning. an example would be a variable such as sex, which could be encoded as 0=male and 1=female just as meaningfully as using 1=male and 0=female. since the numeric values of these attributes are arbitrary, any operation beyond counting and manipulations appropriate to proportions are meaningless. see also: interval attribute, machine learning, ordinal attribute ratio attribute.
