The opg helps people in england and wales to stay in control of decisions about their health and finance, and make important decisions for others who cannot decide for themselves. for example, they can: make sure decisions made by the court of protection are enforced register lasting powers of attorney supervise deputies appointed by the court help attorneys and deputies carry out their duties publish information and guidance about the mental capacity act for families, carers, healthcare professionals and lawyers publish forms for making a lasting power of attorney and applying to the court of protection investigate concerns about the actions of attorneys and deputies.

The rights and responsibilities that a parent has for a child. this might include making decisions about their upbringing and where they live. it is possible for people who are not parents of a child to get parental responsibility. for example, a grandparent or family member could be given parental responsibility by the court.
