Quay, английский
  1. 1. a stone or concrete structure on navigable water used for loading and unloading vessels, generally synonymous with a wharf (q.v.), although the solid foundations of a quay contrast with the closely spaced piles of a wharf. when "quay" and "wharf" are used as synonyms, the term "quay" is more common in everyday speech in the united kingdom, many commonwealth countries, and the republic of ireland, while "wharf" is more commonly used in the united states.

  2. A structure attached to land to which a vessel is moored.

  3. See key.

  4. A mole, bank, or wharf, usually of concrete or stone, built parallel to the edge of a waterway for use as a landing place and for the discharge of cargo. pronounced “key” and sometimes so written.

  5. A landing place or pier, usually of solid construction, where vessels berth to load or unload cargo.
