Newtonian telescope

Meteorological Glossary
A reflecting type telescope with a 45° mirror, so that the primary image is observed through a hole in the side of the tube.

Newtonian, английский

Newtonian flow, английский
Flow in a fluid where the shear rate (flow rate) is directly proportional to the shearing force (pressure).

Newtonian fluid, английский
  1. A fluid with a constant viscosity at a given temperature regardless of the rate of shear. single-grade oils are newtonian fluids. multigrade oils are non-newtonian fluids because viscosity varies with shear rate.

  2. Fluid classification by response to shear rate and shear stress. the ratio of shear stress to shear rate is a measure of a fluid’s viscosity; when that ratio remains constant at any shear stress or rate of shear, the fluid is termed “newtonian”. n-heptane/normal heptane: hydrocarbon compound (c7h16) with an octane rating defined as zero; used as a reference fuel ingredient in motor fuel octane number tests.

Telescope, английский
  1. Телескоп

  2. A long optical instrument, designed to make distant objects appear larger and nearer. usually constructed in sections which slide within one-another to make it less cumbersome when not in use. frequently carried by naval officers as a symbol of authority. also “long glass” and, formerly, “bring-’emnear.”

  3. Telescoped. to force or jam one segment or part into the part to which it is coupled by applying excessive load, example: to force or "telescope" a core-barrel head into the upper end of the outer tube of the core barrel.

  4. Зрительная труба (геодезического инструмента)

Telescope -, английский
    Кипрегель

Telescope house, английский
A house comprised of several units, each of descending height, giving the building the appearance of fitting together like the components of a collapsible telescope; compare with continuous house.

Telescope joint, английский

Telescope joint:, английский
Joint between tubular elements without a flange, the internal diameter of one being equal to the external diameter of the other

Telescoped, английский

Reflecting, английский

Nws, английский
  1. The national weather service, administered by the u.s. department of commerce, and responsible for the collection of weather data, the routine production of weather forecasts, and the issuance of weather warnings within the u.s.

  2. National weather service

  3. National weather station

  4. Naval weapons station

  5. Nose-wheel steering

  6. National weather service (noaa)

Nephelometer, английский
  1. An instrument used to measure the scattering coefficient of an air sample caused by suspended particles. the measurement can be used to determine the visual range through the medium.

  2. Нефелометр. прибор для определения оптическим методом количества взвешенных частиц в мутной среде (вмо).
