- The offense of taking away a wife, child, or ward, by deceitful persuasion, force, or violence
- Outward movement of the eye temporally.
- The movement of a part of the body away from the centre line of the body or away from a neighbouring part. opposite adduction. see illustration at anatomical terms in supplement ‘mary was nursed in a position of not more than 90° upright with her legs in abduction.’ [british journal of nursing]
- Abduction is a form of nonmonotone logic, first suggested by charles pierce in the 1870s. it attempts to quantify patterns and suggest plausible hypotheses for a set of observations. see also: deduction, induction.
