Air gap, английский
- In the drainage system, the unobstructed vertical opening between the lowest opening of a waste line and the flood level of the device into which it empties. its purpose is to prevent backflow contamination.
- See atlantic air gap.
- The distance between roads (rasters or contours).
- The distance between the north and south poles of a magnetic circuit. in conducting pull tests this is the distance between the working surface of the magnet and the testing apparatus.
- A low permeability gap in the flux path of a magnetic circuit. often air, but inclusive of other materials such as paint, aluminum, etc.
- A non-magnetic discontinuity in a ferro-magnetic circuit. for example, the space between the poles of a magnet, although filled with brass or wood or any other non-magnetic material, is nevertheless called an air gap.
