- The defocusing of regions of the picture where the brightness is at an excessive level, due to enlargement of spot size and halation of the fluorescent screen of the cathode-ray picture tube. in a camera, sensor element saturation and excess which causes widening of the spatial representation of a spot light source.

- A visual effect caused by overexposing a ccd to too much light, this digital overexposure can cause distortions of the subject and/or color.
- The spreading of strong highlights into surrounding areas of the image.
- The appearance of a bright or colored halo around brighter areas of digital image files. blooming is caused when a portion of the imaging sensor in a digital camera is exposed to too much light, causing signal “leaks” to the neighboring pixels. see chromatic aberration.
