A measure of how frequently a test is negative in the absence of a particular disease. generally given as the percentage of individuals without a given disease who have a negative test result. ideally, a test should have a specificity of 100%, i.e., the test should always give a negative result when the patient does not have the disease. clsi prefers the term true negative ratio, tnr.
