Chain reaction

Морской словарь
  1. [1] a self-sustaining nuclear event. [2] the sequential explosion of a series of proximate mines or other munitions, caused by the deliberate or accidental detonation of one of them (as in countermining).

  2. A series of reactions in which each reaction is initiated by the energy produced in the preceding reaction.

  3. A reaction that stimulates its own repetition. in a fission chain reaction, a fission nucleus absorbs a neutron and fissions, releasing more than one additional neutron. these in turn can be absorbed by other fissionable nuclei, releasing more neutrons. a fission chain reaction is self-sustaining when the number of neutrons released in a given time interval equals or exceeds the number of neutrons absorbed.
