  5. In computer systems, a reduction in level of performance or service. degradation in microcomputer performance is indicated by slow response times or frequent pauses for disk access because memory is insufficient to hold an entire program plus the data the program is using.

  6. The loss of desirable physical properties by a textile material as a result of some process or physical/chemical phenomenon.

    A term describing termination o f strata along the lower boundary o f a depositional sequence, used only where discrimination between onlap and downlap is difficult or impossible (mitchum, 1977, p. 205). bed. a layer of sediments or sedimentary rocks bounded above and below by more or less well-defined bedding surfaces. a bed is the smallest formal unit in the hierarchy of sedimentary lithostratigraphic units. used commonly as a synonym of “stratum” and “layer” (see section 5.c.4 and
