- (от палео ... и ...лит), древний каменный век, первый период каменного века, время существования ископаемого человека (палеоантропы и др.), который пользовался оббитыми каменными, деревянными, костяными орудиями, занимался охотой и собирательством. палеолит продолжался с возникновения человека (св. 2 млн. лет назад) примерно до 10-го тыс. до н. э.
