- Amígdala, tonsila
- An area of lymphoid tissue at the back of the throat in which lymph circulates and protects the body against germs entering through the mouth. also called palatine tonsil comment: the tonsils are larger in children than in adults, and are more liable to infection. when infected, the tonsils become enlarged and can interfere with breathing.
