  10. See light-induced defects

  11. A discontinuity that interferes with the usefulness of a part. a fault in any material or part detrimental to its serviceability. note that all cracks, seams, laps, etc. are not necessarily defects as they may not affect serviceability of the part in which they exist.

  12. Discontinuity whose size, shape, orientation, or location make it detrimental to the useful service of its host object or which exceeds the accept/reject criteria of an applicable specification. some discontinuities do not exceed an accept/reject criterion and are therefore not defects. compare crack; discontinuity; indication.

  14. Discontinuity whose size, shape, orientation or location (1) makes it detrimental to the useful service of its host object or (2) exceeds an accept/reject criterion of an applicable specification. some discontinuities do not exceed an accept/reject criterion and are therefore not defects. compare crack; discontinuity; indication.

  15. Discontinuity whose size, shape, orientation or location make it detrimental to the useful service of its host object or which exceeds an accept/reject criterion of an applicable specification.1 note that some discontinuities may not affect serviceability and are therefore not defects.1 compare discontinuity and indication.1

  16. Discontinuity whose size, shape, orientation, or location (1) makes it detrimental to the useful service of its host object or (2) exceeds an accept/ reject criterion of an applicable specification. some discontinuities do not exceed an accept/reject criterion and are therefore not defects. compare anomaly; discontinuity; indication. see also flaw.

  17. Discontinuity whose size, shape, orientation or location (1) makes it detrimental to the useful service of its host object or (2) exceeds an accept/reject criterion of an applicable specification. some discontinuities do not exceed an accept/reject criterion and are therefore not defects. compare anomaly; crack; discontinuity; indication. see also flaw.

  19. Discontinuity whose size, shape, orientation or location

  20. Makes it detrimental to the useful service of its host object or (2) exceeds an accept/reject criterion of an applicable specification. some discontinuities do not exceed an accept/reject criterion and are therefore not defects. compare crack; discontinuity; indication.5,6

  21. Discontinuity whose size, shape, orientation or location (1) makes it detrimental to the useful service of its host object or (2) exceeds an accept/reject criterion of an applicable specification.10,18 some discontinuities do not exceed an accept/reject criterion and are therefore not defects. compare crack; discontinuity; indication.10
