    Marginalization, английский
Marginalization is the process of reducing a multi-variable function to a function of (frequently) one variable, usually by adding or integrating the multi-variable function over all possible values of the variables being removed. the process is frequently used in, for example, belief nets to remove or absorb variables and constants that are not relevant to a particular question. for example, consider a model for a medical diagnosis of, say, heart disease based on a graphical model. after all available diagnostic information had been entered and propagated throughout the model, the model could be marginalized to reduce it to a "simple" probability statement about possible diagnoses for a particular patient.
