Standing rigging, английский
  1. Rigging which is used to support masts and spars, and is not normally manipulated during normal operations. cf. running rigging.

  2. Стоячий такелаж

  3. Стоячий такелаж - совокупность снастей, крепящих рангоут в рабочем положении

  4. That part which is made fast, and not hauled upon; being the shrouds, backstays, and stays for the support of the masts.

  5. Consists of permanently-secured heavy lines that are adjusted and made fast to support the masts from forward and aft (stays), and athwartships (shrouds). the system depends on achieving a delicate balance between pull and counterpull. for example, tightening a backstay might bend the mast in a slight curve towards the stern. this could be compensated by increasing tension on a forestay, but that might slacken the port and starboard shrouds which would have to be tightened equally to re-balance them. when the entire system has been tuned and is in equilibrium, lines and tackles can be permanently fixed in position and the excess ends cut off. the shrouds are crossed horizontally by ratlines that provide topmen with a means of going aloft. when they get there, the yards are equipped with loops, called foot-ropes or horses, on which they can stand while handling sails. standing rigging is usually protected with pitch giving it a black look which distinguishes it from lighter colored running rigging which is left naked for flexibility.
