Pigtail splice

Глоссарий по архитектуре и конструкциям
A type of connection made between two electric conductors; formed by placing the ends of the conductors side by side and then twisting the ends of the two conductors around one another.

Pigtail, английский
  1. A short optical fiber permanently attached to a source, detector, or other fiber optic device at one end and an optical connector at the other.

  2. A flexible conductor which is attached to an electric component, providing a means of connecting the component to a circuit.

  3. A braid of hair (usually tarred by sailors) hanging down at the back of the neck. a pigtail (properly queue) was often considered the symbol of sailing ship seamen, especially during the napoleonic wars. in those days both pressed men and volunteers were likely to come aboard with lice, so their heads were shaved on arrival. starting earlier, but especially from the mid-eighteenth century to about 1825, long tresses became a symbol of service and were worn as a matter of pride by both officers and seamen to demonstrate their trade and seniority.

  4. Волоконно-оптическая сборка; монтажный шнур; кабель для наращивания на основной

Pigtails, electrical, английский
The electric cord that the electrician provides and installs on an appliance such as a garbage disposal, dishwasher, or range hood.

Splice, английский
  1. Соединение проводников или оптических волокон без разъемов, обеспечивающее передачу сигналов

  2. To join the ends of timber elements together.

  3. A joint used for connecting two lengths of conductor or cable with good mechanical strength as well as good conductivity.

  4. Постоянное соединение оптических волокон (т. н. механическое соединение)

  5. To join lines (ropes, cables, etc.) by unravelling their ends and intertwining them to form a continuous line. to form an eye or a knot by splicing.

  6. A permanent junction between two fiber ends.

  7. Сплесень, сплеснивать, сращивать (концы

  8. Соединение внахл

  9. The joining of two lines together by interweaving their strands.

  10. Сплеснивание, сплесень

  11. The joining of two ropes together. familiarly, two persons joined in wedlock.—to splice. to join the two untwisted ends of a rope together. there are several methods of making a splice, according to the services for which it is intended; as:—the long rolling splice is chiefly used in lead-lines, log-lines, and fishing-lines, where the short splice would be liable to separation, as being frequently loosened by the water.—the long splice occupies a great extent of rope, but by the three joinings being fixed at a distance from each other, the increase of bulk is divided; hence it resembles a continuous lay, and is adapted to run through the sheave-hole of a block, &c., for which use it is generally intended.— the short splice is used upon cables, slings, block-strops, and, in general, all ropes which are not intended to run through blocks.— spliced eye forms a sort of eye or circle at the end of a rope, and is used for splicing in thimbles, bull`s-eyes, &c., and generally on the end of lashing block-strops. (see eye-splice.)

  12. [1] to join the ends of two ropes or cables by interweaving their strands (cf. braid). [2] the joint so created. see short splice and long splice.

  13. The place where two lines are joined together end to end.

  14. To join the ends of two pieces of magnetic tape with adhesive tape. splice also refers to the taped joint between two sections of magnetic tape.

Splice, русский

Splice box, английский
Устройство для размещения и защиты сплайсовых соединений

Splice closure, английский
A cable and fiber management product that environmentally protects and houses optical splices. available as inline or butt style, the closure is usually in a dome or clamshell configuration. s can also hold connectors and optical splitters. telcordia gr-771 specifies mechanical requirements and environmental specifications and tests

Splice efficiency, русский

Splice failure, русский

Splice organizer, английский
In optical communication, a device that facilitates the splicing or breaking out of fiber optic cables.

Splice panel, английский
A rack or wall-mounted panel that allows cables to be organized and spliced. the panel holds splice trays, secures the cable, grounds any metallic members, and organizes and stores buffer tubes, fibers, and splices

Splice plate, английский
A metal plate used for fastening two or more members together. metal which is inserted in a slot formed by two members, each of which is grooved and butted against the other. 2. in a suspended acoustical ceiling, a strip of metal or hard fiber inserted in the slot between adjacent acoustical tiles which butt against each other, forming a concealed mechanical joint.

Splice the main brace, английский
In nautical parlance, to serve out an extra allowance of grog in bad weather or after severe exertion.

Splice the mainbrace, английский
  1. A euphemism, it is an order given aboard naval vessels to issue the crew with a drink, traditionally grog. the phrase splice the mainbrace is used idiomatically meaning to go ashore on liberty, intending to go out for an evening of drinking.

  2. [1] enjoy an alcoholic drink. [2] issue an extra ration of rum. the main brace was one of the biggest running lines in the ship, so splicing it was extremely arduous. moreover, it ran high up the mainmast, making the task dangerous as well. the job was so disliked that it became traditional to give seamen performing it an extra tot of rum or brandy. later the practice was extended to cover any special occasion, such as after combat or to celebrate an anniversary. that being said, it is something of a mystery that the phrase refers to running rigging at all, since standing rigging was much heavier and therefore harder to splice. for example, the principal stay on a first-rate was six inches (15 cm) in diameter and would have been far more arduous to splice than even the biggest brace. on the other hand, a running line was more likely to chafe and snap.

Splice tray, английский
A container that prevents spliced fibers from becoming damaged or being misplaced.

Splice-on plugs use a prepolished fiber stub and then are, английский
Mechanically or fusion spliced. military, industrial, and heavy-duty specialized connectors may use expanded beam lenses and termini contacts (instead of ferrules) based on standard mil/aero dimensions. key specifications for all connectors include attenuation, reflectance, and repeatability
