- Osteoporosis
- A condition in which the bones become thin, porous and brittle, due to low levels of oestrogen, lack of calcium and lack of physical exercise. also called brittle bone disease comment: osteoporosis mainly affects postmenopausal women, increasing the risk of fractures. hormone replacement therapy is the most effective method of preventing osteoporosis though there are other risks to health from long-term use.
- A decrease in density of the bones causing structural weakness throughout the skeleton. fractures can result from even a minor injury or fall. some bone loss normally occurs in older adults. still, osteoporosis develops most often in white women after menopause.
