Popular dutch-designed 17–18th century cargo ship. carvel-built, with a flat bottom and curved sides bent to wrap around the stern. squarerigged on fore and main masts, with a lateen sail on the mizzen. could carry 20–40 cannon, but was frequently unarmed to maximize carrying capacity.
