Are one of the leastknown families of large aquatic mammals. several species have only recently been identified, and it is entirely possible more remain undiscovered. they are creatures of the ocean deeps, diving for long periods (85 minutes have been recorded) and to great depths (1,000 fathoms or more) making them the deepestdiving air-breathing animals. they are highly sensitive to underwater sound and have been reported to mass strand during naval sonar exercises.
