Pull your finger out, английский
This colloquialism—meaning essentially “stop procrastinating and get on with it”—originally applied to a specific task in naval gunnery. while powder and shot were being rammed into a muzzle-loading cannon, there was a danger of selfignition due to the heat of previous firings, so one member of the gun-crew would press his thumb against the vent to keep oxygen out. when the gun was loaded, the command “finger out!” would warn him to withdraw smartly or be burned by the approaching slow-match.
Public vessel, английский
One owned or chartered by a state for governmental duties and effectively enjoying “diplomatic immunity.” even if suspected of carrying contraband of war, a neutral public vessel, may not be visited, searched, detained, or seized by a belligerent.
