Морской словарь |
Queen’s regulations and orders (brit.). q-route: a pre-planned shipping lane through mined or potentially-mined waters. q-ship: an rn-crewed merchantman used during word war i to deceive german u-boats. when a submarine surfaced to attack with its deck gun, a “panic party,” including seamen dressed as women, took to the boats, tempting the submarine to close in. hinged bulkheads then opened to reveal hidden armament which destroyed the sitting target. their success led uboats to remain submerged for torpedo attack. qships were unsuccessfully deployed by the usn in word war ii. (the “q” comes from the latin quaere = query.) see also hms president.
