Thach weave, английский
An aerial combat maneuver developed by lt.cdr. (later admiral) john ( jimmie) thach in the summer of 1941 to counter the superior performance of japanese naval fighters. abandoning the traditional three-plane section favored by all the world’s air forces, he devised a four-plane unit divided into two two-plane sections flying wide apart. each section would watch the tails of the other. an enemy coming from astern would have to choose which section to attack. when one section saw the attacker it would immediately make a 90° inward turn. this would alert the other section it was under threat and it would also make a 90° inward turn. an enemy following the second section would then meet the guns of the first section head on. see weave [2].
