A detail assembled for a specific job. world geographic reference system: a spatially referenced (linked to location) area-designation method that is suitable for reporting and plotting and can be applied to any map or chart that is graduated in latitude and longitude, regardless of its projection. the system divides the globe into twenty-four longitudal zones, each 15 degrees wide, identified by the letters a to z (i and o omitted). there are twelve bands of latitude, also 15 degrees wide, lettered a to m (omitting i). in referencing a location, the first letter is that of the longitude band and the second letter is that of the latitude. the “georef ” system is used for interservice reporting of strategic air operations, and in air defense. see also geographic referencing.
