  1. Dark spots, brown spots, sun spots, whatever you call them�it`s hyperpigmentation, often caused by sun damage, scarring from inflammation (like acne), or natural aging. dark spots are essentially an overproduction of melanin, which is what gives your skin and hair their color. to help with that, look for brightening and exfoliating products.

  2. Typically refers to sun spots or post-acne marks, which are difficult or slow to disappear from the surface of the skin.
