Pigtail, английский
- A short optical fiber permanently attached to a source, detector, or other fiber optic device at one end and an optical connector at the other.
- A flexible conductor which is attached to an electric component, providing a means of connecting the component to a circuit.
- A braid of hair (usually tarred by sailors) hanging down at the back of the neck. a pigtail (properly queue) was often considered the symbol of sailing ship seamen, especially during the napoleonic wars. in those days both pressed men and volunteers were likely to come aboard with lice, so their heads were shaved on arrival. starting earlier, but especially from the mid-eighteenth century to about 1825, long tresses became a symbol of service and were worn as a matter of pride by both officers and seamen to demonstrate their trade and seniority.
