Oil glossary
A separator that divides a mixture or emulsion of two immiscible liquids using the interfacial tension between the two liquids and the difference in wetting of the two liquids on a particular porous medium.

Immiscible, английский
Incapable of being mixed without separation of phases. water and petroleum oil are immiscible under most conditions, although they can be made miscible with the addition of an emulsifier.

Interfacial, английский

Difference, английский
  1. Disagreement, inequity, contrast, dissimilarity, incompatibility

  2. Разница; разность

  3. An important army term, meaning firstly the sum to be paid by officers when exchanging from the half to full pay; and, secondly, the price or difference in value of the several commissions.

Particular, английский

Coefficient of friction, английский
  1. The number obtained by dividing the friction force resisting motion between two bodies by the normal force pressing the bodies together.

  2. Коэффициент трения

  3. The ratio of the force causing a body to slide along a plane (in the direction of sliding) to the normal force pressing the two surfaces together.

  4. The number obtained by dividing the force that resists motion between two bodies by the normal force that brings the bodies together (see static friction, dynamic friction, stick-slip ratio). coefficient of friction – the force required to move one body over a horizontal surface at constant speed divided by the weight of the body. for example, if a force of 4kg is required to move a body weighing 10 kilograms, the coefficient of friction is 0.4. coefficient of friction of solids is independent of load. coefficient of friction of liquids is a function of the viscosity of the fluid, speed and pressure of the application.

  5. The factor used to determine the maximum tractive effort which can be applied by a locomotive under a given rail condition before slip occurs. it is denoted by the greek letter µ and may vary between 0.1 and 0.4 in uk conditions.

Cloud point, английский
  1. The temperature at which waxy crystals in an oil or fuel form a cloudy appearance.

  2. Temperature at which a noticeable cloud of crystals or other solid material appears when a sample is cooled under prescribed conditions.
