    Elasticity, английский
    1. Usually used to explain consumer demand in response to changes in prices. demand for basic goods such as bread is thought to be inelastic since the amount of bread bought changes little with price. if the price goes up, people have little choice but to pay it, but if it goes down they are unlikely to eat more bread. by comparison, luxury goods are price elastic. if the price of chauffeur-driven trips to work becomes too expensive, executives may switch to black cabs, or even the train.

    3. The property of a body that causes it to tend to return to its original shape after deformation (as stretching, compression, or torsion).

    4. The ability to expand and be compressed and to return to the former shape

    7. The ability of a strained material to recover its original size and shape immediately after removal of the stress that causes deformation.

    8. Responsiveness; the degree to which one variable (e.g., quantity demanded) is responsive to a change in another (e.g., price).

    9. The capability of a material to regain its original shape or

    11. That property of a material by virtue of which it tends to recover its original size and shape after deformation. electrical noise

    12. Ability of a material to resume its former shape after deformation.

    13. Ability of a material to resume its former shape after deformation.1

    14. Ability of a material to regain its former shape after removal of applied stress. see also ductility.

    Elasticity coefficient,

    Elasticity limit, английский

    Elasticity of an option, английский
Percentage change in the value of an option given a 1% change in the value of the option`s underlying stock. related: delta.

    Elasticity of bulk, английский

Elasticity of compression; resistance to compressive strain, английский

    Elasticity of demand, английский
    1. The degree of buyers` responsiveness to price changes. elasticity is measured as the percent change in quantity divided by the percent change in price. a large value (greater than 1) of elasticity indicates sensitivity of demand to price, e.g., luxury goods, where a rise in price causes a decrease in demand. goods with a small value of elasticity (less than 1) have a demand that is insensitive to price, e.g., food, where a rise in price has little or no effect on the quantity demanded by buyers.

    2. Responsiveness of quantity demanded to a change in a variable such as price, the price of a substitute, or of other goods, and income.

    Elasticity of supply, английский
    1. The degree of producers` responsiveness to price changes. elasticity is measured as the percent change in quantity divided by the percent change in price. a large value (greater than 1) of elasticity indicates sensitivity of supply to price, e.g., luxury goods, where a rise in price causes an increase in supply. goods with a small value of elasticity (less than 1) have a supply that is insensitive to price, e.g., food, where a rise in price has little or no effect on the amount that producers supply.

    2. Responsiveness of quantity supplied to a given change in price.

    Elasticity sensor,

    1. An argument which explains a scientific fact

    2. Теория

    Theory of architecture, английский

    Theory of contestable markets, английский
A theory that holds that potential competition can have an impact on price similar to when there are a large number of firms in the market. even though one or a few suppliers are currently in the market, market power is constrained by the threat of entry—if entry barriers are, indeed, low.
