‘attributable to’ means ‘is the cause of’ or ‘is the reason for’. for example, an employee’s constant absences were attributable to his serious illness.

In rough set theory, the lower approximation of a concept x is the largest definable set contained in the concept (class) x. for example, in a medical database on heart attacks, the lower approximation of the heart attack concept would be the largest definable set of attributes among those cases with heart attacks. a measure of uncertainty for the lower approximation is the ratio of the number of records in the lower approximation to the total number of records in the dataset. it is a relative frequency estimate, as well as a dempster-shafer belief function. see also: belief function, rough set theory, upper approximation.
