- A blood vessel which takes deoxygenated blood containing waste carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the heart (note: for other terms referring to veins see words beginning phleb-, phlebo- or vene-, veno-.)
- The clear water between the openings of floes of ice. the same as ice-lane. also, a very limited current of wind—a cat`s-paw.
- A lane of clear water between floes of ice. see also lead.
