Newtonian fluid

Oil glossary
  1. A fluid with a constant viscosity at a given temperature regardless of the rate of shear. single-grade oils are newtonian fluids. multigrade oils are non-newtonian fluids because viscosity varies with shear rate.

  2. Fluid classification by response to shear rate and shear stress. the ratio of shear stress to shear rate is a measure of a fluid’s viscosity; when that ratio remains constant at any shear stress or rate of shear, the fluid is termed “newtonian”. n-heptane/normal heptane: hydrocarbon compound (c7h16) with an octane rating defined as zero; used as a reference fuel ingredient in motor fuel octane number tests.

  9. The process of assigning a set of records from a database (observations in a dataset) into (usually) one of ``small" number of pre-specified disjoint categories. related techniques include regression, which predicts a range of values and clustering, which (typically) allows the categories to form themselves. the classification can be "fuzzy" in several senses of the word. in usual sense, the classification technique can allow a single record to belong to multiple (disjoint) categories with a probability (estimated) of being in each class. the categories can also overlap when they are developed either through a hierarchical model or through an agglomerative technique. finally, the classification can be fuzzy in the sense of using "fuzzy logic" techniques. see also: clustering, fuzzy logic, regression. classification and regression trees (cart) classification and regression trees (cart) is a particular form of decision tree used in data mining and statistics.

Hydrocarbon, английский

  6. A compound composed of carbon and hydrogen, the basic element of countless organic compounds and the principal constituents of petroleum. hydrocarbons in petroleum fall into three basic categories: the straight-chain paraffins (aliphatic); the cyclic (ring) chain (naphthenic) and the cyclic chain (aromatic).

Neutralization number, английский
  1. A measure of the total acidity or basicity of an oil; this includes organic or inorganic acids or bases or a combination thereof (astm designation d974-58t)

  2.
