Parity check

  1. A check of the accuracy of data being transmitted. to accomplish this, an extra parity bit is added to a group of bits so that the number of ones in the group is, according to the specification, even or odd. then, at the receiving end, the bits in the word are added, the parity bit needed for that total is determined, and the total is then compared with the parity bit transmitted.
